WLODZIMIERZ NAHORY
will be the host of this year's "Polish Jazz Gala". He is one of the most original and versatile Polish jazz artists, who became known to the public as an excellent saxophonist, flutist, pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader. He also did not shy away from collaborating with stage and rock artists - Nahorny's songs, her portrait and Tango with a rose in her teeth, received first prizes at festivals in Opole in 1972 and 1973; from 1969 he performed and recorded with the group Breakout. He composed for film and theater. During the concert, he will present a cross-section of his work. Apart from the permanent trio and sextet, he will be accompanied by vocalists: Beata Przybytek and Wojciech Myrczek.
STANISŁAW SOYKA
will perform in the second part of the Gala. This charismatic singer, instrumentalist and composer has been one of the greatest artists of the Polish music scene for many years. He composes and sings songs about love and its lack, songs about longing and fulfillment, but does not escape from the great problems of modern times. His output includes over 30 albums, several of which have achieved multi-platinum circulation. He never gave in to fashions and trends. He has developed his own musical language, which is why he belongs to the group of artists whose style is recognizable from the first sounds and the richness of the repertoire can make you dizzy. He has dozens of original songs to his credit, but it is difficult to ignore the fact that he composed music to many poems by Polish poets and ... not only.
In addition to presenting jazz stars, from the very beginning, Zadymka has been trying to initiate cooperation between young musicians and support their development. For 20 years, it has been organizing a competition, the prize of which is the publication and promotion of their debut album. The leader of the band that won this year's Competition is not a Pole, but he has a musical future with our country. The Cuban saxophonist and clarinetist JOAQUIN SOSA will present the material from their debut album during the Smoke Gala, which was published as a prize in the Competition by Radio Katowice - the co-organizer of the Festival.
